Comment & Release Note

With his second album "Efflorescence", musician and artist Tyler Smith aka Quasga presents eight standout tracks which navigate a psychedelic night-time landscape anchored in dub and integrate organic and electronic sounds. Warm melodies are diversified against a framework of intricate rhythms and arching harmonies. Unique spoken samples are incorporated seamlessly and used with clear intent. Interstitial atmospheric sounds provide for a continuous listening experience. The tracks are varied enough in tempo and mood to make the album playable in any chillout room.

"Process of Unfolding" gently opens the album like a blooming bud, followed by the introspective "Neurosomatic Circuit". "Atmos-spheres" floats with a perfect balance of elements as embodied in the sounds of flutes and bells over a dynamic bass line. "Spectral Processor" explores contrasts, with much of the melody carried by the bass. Next is a sublime and inspired remix of Aes Dana's "Natti Natti" with the addition of a caressing bass pulse and soothing vocals. Next, the title track invites us to move to its gentle groove. "Gnome Dosed" is an aural adventure with melodic exploration reminiscent of classic downtempo Goa. Finally, in "Dub Crickets", the chirping chorus that has heretofore been the ambient bridge between tracks is brought center stage in a relaxing dub jam, bringing to mind lazy summer nights.

Accompanying each track is a piece of exquisite psychedelic art for visual exploration in concert with each song, presented as an 8 page booklet.

title : Picking Up The Pieces
label : Sofa Beats

Comment & Release Note
The second CD from Iboga Records sub label Sofa Beats is ready. This time its an album from Oliver Jones. The Project is collaboration between Oliver Bierlich and Jonas Christiansen. These two old friends jammed their brains out in the good old rock n roll days and now they reunited in this new era. Jonas “Chaz” or Jones has his electronic roots as a DJ in the house and break beat scene in Copenhagen, and adds the exterior flavour to the grooves and sounds. Oliver Bierlich has a long discography, releasing as Reefer Decree and Oryx and with an equally long list of international live acts and DJ gigs behind him. Now, in the common interests of having fun and expanding outside the trance scene boundaries, they join forces, and using raw samplings and live musicians they present their debut album “Picking Up The Pieces” Its an absolute must to have CD. A nice experimental chill and lounge CD for any occasion.

title : Soul Vibration #001
label : Liquid

Comment & Release Note
‘Soul Vibrations #001’, the first down-tempo release from Liquid Records, is a result of much time spent selectively searching amongst the movers and shakers in London’s electronic and alternative music scene today… After many years of putting on festivals and exclusive music and arts-based events, the label founder James Anthony (aka Liquid Djems) - an established DJ in London and internationally, has put together his years of experience, talent and considerable contact list of producers and artists to create this exciting new venture.

Soul Vibrations is a collection of rarely heard musical gems, the ones that cross the boundaries of distinct categorisation with a fusion of styles that makes each one greater than the sum of its parts. The tracks deliver a classy blend of real instrumentation, electronic manipulation and a full showcase of the bass line in all its glory! The overall selection has a psychedelic and dubby vibe with added ethnic, trance and drum n bass flavours … more ‘havin’ it gently’ than ‘chill out’.

The artists who have contributed to this compilation are a collection of seasoned producers and newer talent… all of whom have stepped up and delivered something exclusive for this project…. With tracks from classy producer and dub selecta extraordinaire Nick Manasseh, The Orb and Alien Soap Opera’s Greg Hunter, Interchill’s best selling artist Gaudi, dub-wise producer and soundsystem veteran Redseal, groovy dub-meister Ott and the don of monster soundscapes Graham Wood amongst others… This is a compilation not to be left on the shelf!
